Episode 2: Painful sex to pelvic health – physical recovery from birth trauma
This week our host Theo is joined by Jo Fordyce, a specialist pelvic health physiotherapist, and Alice Johnstone, the postnatal pilates coach. They share practical information to help mothers recover from challenges after childbirth, discuss what to consider in pregnancy to help with postnatal recovery and suggest ways to better take care of yourself in the first six weeks of the postnatal period.
Topics that we discuss on the show include: what is pelvic floor dysfunction and what symptoms mothers might have post partum, how pelvic health physiotherapy can be managed and treated, the importance of antenatal education, resources that are available, things to consider before returning to exercise, practicing self care and how it's never to late too start wherever you are at in your recovery.
Don't suffer in silence! Listen in and let's break the final taboo in women's health.

Jo Fordyce is a specialist pelvic health physiotherapist with nearly thirty years of experience. Jo started working in this speciality at St George's Hospital in London leading the pelvic health team and was involved with the implementation and development of the multi-disciplinary perineal clinic for women with severe birth trauma. Her current role in the NHS is working in a Urology Clinic and she also works in private practice in South London. Jo sees a variety of pelvic health conditions including stress, urge incontinence (leakage), pelvic organ prolapse, pelvic floor muscle dysfunction, pain with sexual intimacy, and pelvic pain. Pelvic health conditions affect women of all ages, but she sees many referred during the post natal stages with the above symptoms, as well as offering the Mummy MOT assessment post delivery.
Alice Johnstone is the Postnatal Pilates Coach who founded Your Time Pilates in 2018. Inspired by her own recovery challenges after the births of her two children, Alice is passionate about empowering postnatal women to reclaim their bodies and lives. She provides 1:1 classes in South West London and helps Pilates instructors to specialise in postnatal rehab through her signature program, The Postnatal Core Rehab Method, which has transformed hundreds of lives, addressing challenges like c-sections, diastatis recti, and pelvic floor issues.
