As a member of the Building Safety Bill Committee, Theo Clarke MP for Stafford spent over a month asking numerous questions and scrutinising the Building Safety Bill line by line. Ms Clarke heard oral and written evidence in relation to this matter including from Grenfell victims and stakeholders. Following the end of the Bill Committee stage and the continuation of the Bill passing through the House of Commons, Ms Clarke thanked the Government for listening and welcomes the Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities’ announcement that leaseholders living in medium and high-rise flats will not have to pay to fix unsafe cladding.
The Rt Hon Michael Gove MP has announced a new plan to protect leaseholders and make wealthy developers and companies pay to fix dangerous cladding. In addition, a new dedicated team is being established to pursue and expose companies at fault and to force them to shoulder the burden of making buildings safe.
