During the Department for Work and Pension Questions in the Chamber of the House of Commons, Theo Clarke MP for Stafford spoke about her support for apprenticeships following her recent visit to Stafford College. Ms Clarke also raised with David Rutley MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department for Work and Pensions, the need for the Government to help get more people, particularly parents, in Staffordshire into full time work.
Ms Clarke welcomes that thanks to the hard work of the Government unemployment is down and employee numbers are at record levels. Through its Plan for Jobs, the Government is focused on protecting, supporting and creating more jobs across the country. The Government has a dedicated website which provides personalised advice for business owners, people who are self-employed and people looking for jobs as the country builds back better from the coronavirus pandemic. Theo Clarke MP for Stafford:
“We know that the chance that a child will grow up in poverty falls when both their parents are in full-time work. Last Friday, I visited Stafford College ahead of National Apprenticeship Week. What are we doing to help more parents into work, in particular full-time work, to help my constituents in Staffordshire?”
David Rutley MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Department for Work and Pensions:
“We have a full plan for jobs, which sets out a huge range of initiatives from kickstart for the young through to SWAPs—sector-based work academy programmes—and restart, and even a midlife MOT. Those are incredibly important tools that will help people get their children into a better financial situation. Of course, childcare is also available. We spend about £6 billion a year to support childcare. We need to make sure, as the Secretary of State said, that we make that work better for the families who rely on it.”
