MP Theo Clarke was joined by the farming minister this weekend during the English Winter Fair at the Staffordshire County Showground.
Mark Spencer and Mrs Clarke met with the chief executive of County Showground Richard Williams and saw some livestock judging. Later the pair met Staffordshire NFU local members for a private roundtable chaired by Mrs Clarke. They then walked around the fair to meet exhibitors from all over the country who come to the nationally important agricultural show.
The minister was invited by Mrs Clarke to see the event and meet with local farmers to discuss a range of issues.
“I would like to thank the minister for taking the time to come to our wonderful show, to meet with local people who organised it and with our local farmers,” said Mrs Clarke.
“It is important ministers speak to and listen to Stafford’s farmers about agricultural and farming issues. I was pleased so many came to speak with the minister about their views and experiences.”
Mark Spencer said: “Great to see some prize-winning livestock at the English Winter Fair and to speak directly to local farmers about the challenges and opportunities in the industry and how government can help. Thanks to Theo for inviting me.”
