Theo Clarke MP for Stafford is delighted that £3,964,000 of funding has been awarded for the Staffordshire History Centre in Stafford town centre, giving more people access to the William Salt Library and Staffordshire records. This funding will include an extension to the existing Staffordshire Record Office on Eastgate Street in Stafford, incorporating the William Salt Library. The Library will also be restored and will tell the story of the building, as well as William Salt and his collection.
Theo Clarke MP is pleased that this funding will also create a green pedestrian walkway and wildlife corridor in Stafford for local people to enjoy. This wildlife corridor will provide shelter and create habitats for a number of different animals, as well as creating a green walkway for people in Stafford.
The William Salt Library contains a huge collection of books pamphlets, manuscripts, drawings, watercolours, and transcripts built up by William Salt and the Library continues to collect materials relating to Staffordshire for present and future generations. Ms Clarke welcomes that local people in Staffordshire will be able to learn more about the area’s history and get involved with their local community.
