I was never a supporter of HS2 and I urged the Prime Minister to scrap the line up to Manchester because it was disruptive, I felt the money could be spent on better things and the cost was prohibitive.
That decision to halt construction has now given us a brilliant new opportunity to through the Local Transport Fund – using that HS2 money - to invest in transport across the West Midlands and the nearly £286 million for Staffordshire is going to make a difference.
Councils and MPs will be working together to make the decisions needed for our residents across a whole range of transport ideas including new roads and mass transit connections to more EV charge-points or refurbished bus and train stations.
It can also be used to fill in potholes – a move that will be welcome to many.
